Andy created his very own pops orchestra and following a series of successful concerts he decided to the rebrand as the English Pops Orchestra in 1997. Orchestral pop was becoming increasingly rare and having spent years playing this genre of music Andy wanted his very own all light music band to promote this very neglected but hugely popular sound. The repertoire got larger and so did the orchestra's popularity when in the late 90s the EPO would entertain thousands at open air concerts with its selection of film, TV and pop numbers. Throughout the years the EPO has built up its very own extensive 'light music' library.Andy Smith has been a performer, producer and arranger for over 20 years, having picked up his love for symphonic pop from the years spent freelancing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras.. Playing Hooked on Classics and ELO concerts with the RPO were the two big influences that encouraged Andy to establish a permanent rhythm section as the most prominent feature of his orchestra and yet still allow the unrestrained beauty of an orchestral sound. He believes in combining technolgy with tradition. A loyal band of top professional singers have performed regularly with the EPO including John Langley from the West End, Laura Quatro (Suzi Quatro's daughter) and the soulful sound of Aisa Withey. We are proud to be the only all pop/light music orchestra. In December 2011 we celebrated 30 years of Hooked on Classics with Louis Clark at the Bournemouth BIC.. 2012 sees us take the show out for a few UK dates..
